new wave feminism

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A quasi-academic look at Feminism, politics & race relations through the lens of a 20-something year old Nigerian American who was born & raised up in the (still) segregated south but has relocated to the "liberal" yet historic & traditional north.
This blog is my space for an interdisciplinary examination of race, gender, class, sexuality - all things intersectional & multi-dimensional.
Feminism the way I see it...

A teenage boy who raped a girl of five was handed a community order by a judge who blamed ‘the world and society’ for his exposure to pornography.

This judge needs to recuse himself from the world

Gee, she must have a pretty low opinion of male soldiers. And women. But as we found out, she didn’t have those problems when she was a “combat” reporter in Vietnam.

Clicking the link to get context only makes the story even more sickening. In response to offering services to PROTECT those in service “That’s funny, I thought the mission of the Army, and the Navy, and four services was to defend and protect us, not the people who were fighting the war." wow - the mission of the Army & Navy is to defend "american interests" (whatever that means) at all cost - even at the expense of the people who signed their life over to fight… because they’re just pawns in the game right?

I’m so glad the army recruits so hard in low-income areas & schools just for their recruits to continue to be treated like second class citizens breaking their backs for the benefit of the rest of America…

Herman Cain’s latest attempt at damage control is not a parody. We repeat: Not a parody.

Can we just all agree to stop talking about Herman Cain now? Let him sink to the depths of irrelevance with as little fanfare as possible?

Pro-life activist Missy Reilly Smith describes her 2010 congressional campaign, which consisted entirely of running 30-second advertisements depicting aborted fetuses. If you live in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Iowa, or New Hampshire, those ads could soon be coming to a television set near you. And as Tim Murphy reports, there’s nothing the FCC can do about it.

wow. the post just got more and more abhorrent as I kept reading…

I sat next to one the other night. One of the games was where you control an intoxicated woman trying to walk home. You have to keep her upright long enough and at certain timed intervals, an item of clothing is removed. The goal of the game is to get the intoxicated woman naked and home without falling.

Is there a companion game where you have to control a man walking home, and the goal is to get him to his house without raping anyone?

If we lived in a society where obesity was truly a symbol of neglect and parental negligence, I could see this legislation making sense.  However, obesity and overfeeding will never be a sign of abuse in that way.  It shows that they are being fed.  Perhaps too much, or not enough of what they should be eating, but that is so rarely feasible for working families, whether they are in poverty or middle class.

Fuck this idea.

Removing children from their parents is not the solution. Education, healthcare, fair wages, subsidies on ANYTHING BUT FUCKING CORN, that would help the state we’re in.  Not increasing the percentage of children in “temporary” foster care.  I grew up obese, and the amount of time it would have taken me to lose enough weight to be “qualified” to go back to my parents would have been agonizing.  Why would I want to live with strangers?  Why do you think foster parents can afford better healthcare and food for their kids than the people you’d be robbing of the kids they want and provide the best they can for?

Fuck.

This is painfully shortsighted.

I get it, we’re all worried about health and the livelihoods of the kids in this country.  It’s not healthy to be overfed and to grow up obese, but tell me how taking kids from their FAMILIES because they are too fat will help them develop healthier ideas about nutrition?  That’s a traumatic PUNISHMENT, and shame is an awful way to go about this kind of change.  I get that they want to shock parents into “taking care of” their kids with this, but everyone loses in this scenario.

Fuck that.

I’m really tired of legislators thinking they can bully small businesses and medical schools to get around the fact that abortion is a legal, medical procedure. My middle fingers are permanently raised at the House.

But abortion is still legal in the US, right? They can defund medical for teaching a legal procedure? What if I think appendectomies are the devil’s work?

Nobody would care, because appendectomies are not ~controversial~ enough. The way people handle abortion here is ridiculous, which is why we need someone to stand up and say, no, abortion is legal and you can’t do this.

this is REALLY starting to get old. Aren’t there other issues in this country to tackle other than LEGAL MEDICAL PROCERDURES??! Did they think the SUPREME COURT didn’t know what it was talking about?
