This winter, the coalition government in the UK announced sweeping changes to university tuition fees that set higher education in Britain to be the most expensive in Europe.
Students voiced their discontent in widespread protests that brought news footage into our homes reminiscent of the 70s and 80s; from horses charging marchers, to the windows of Conservative Party office being kicked in by an angry mob. However, one occupation’s success at holding their University and generating amazing amounts of support suggested thatsomething different was happening here.
We - directors Isis, Srdan and Ludo - are three filmmakers that have been with a group of University College London students with a passion for change since day one. We have seen them come together and organize themselves using Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to make their belief in the fundamental right to an affordable education heard across the country and around the world. Their occupation, a classic 60s sit-in with a Twitter-feed twist, has seen the beginning of the strongest student movement in 40 years.
I’m definitely keeping my eye out for the completed documentary! =)
I’m making a documentary focused on sexual fluidity and the broad range of sexuality. Tumblr users express a wide range of opinions and I hope to get as many of you to share your views as possible. I have created a series of questions related to sexuality that I would like answered in a video or audio submission. My goal is to get a wide range of answers that I can edit into a full-length product. Always remember, all shades are beautiful. Such a interesting documentary. My Black is BEAUTIFUL. How about you? Pass this along. I think it is so important that we encourage our young children, that no matter what their skin tone, that they are smart, intelligent, gifted and beautiful, inside and out. And with the natural hair movement happening, not only is it liberating to women of color, but it’s an image at which young girls will be able to accept their hair more in it’s natural state, and that they have just as much worth as the little girl with the straight hair.
Let’s not pick. Encourage one another. When your friend looks good, tell her. If your fellow brother looks handsome, let him know. If we don’t support one another and appreciate our genes, our heritage… then who will?
